Shiffman Library announces new features in UpToDate

Shiffman Medical Library officials have announced that this year’s UpToDate subscription comes some of the most exciting changes for Wayne State University School of Medicine faculty and students in some time.

“Now that we have renewed our database subscription for another year, there are changes to this heavily-used resource that we want our faculty and students to know about,” said Sandra Martin, assistant director of the library.

New features include:

UpToDate Remote Access:
WSU affiliates now have access to UpToDate at any time and from any where via the Web. Simply connect to the Shiffman Library through www.lib.wayne.edu. Choose the Article Databases tab, then type “UpToDate” in the search box or select the UpToDate hot link. Authenticate with your WSU/Pipeline ID and password and you will be ready to go.

Links to Full Text: View the content of the full text of articles from those journals to which the WSU libraries subscribe. Just click the hotlink in the References section in a topic and then select “360 link to full text.”

New specialty: Content for General Surgery has been added to the compliment of UpToDate specialties. Editors have worked to develop topics covering all the major areas, including more than 15 sections in general surgery, sections on minimally invasive surgery, as well as anesthesia and analgesia, general surgical principles, and surgical quality and safety.

New webinar series: Join the UpToDate “Client Connection,” a free bi-monthly educational Webinar series. E-mail training@uptodate.com to be added to the series distribution list.
