A Wayne State University School of Medicine professor served as editor in chief of a newly released first edition of a new textbook on pediatric care.

Deepak M. Kamat, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.P., professor of the Department of Pediatrics and director of the pediatric residency program for the School of Medicine, edited “Quick Reference Guide for Pediatric Care,” published by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Kamat, who also serves as vice chair of education and director of the Institute of Medical Education for the Carman and Ann Adams Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, is also editor in chief of Pediatric Care Online Quick Reference, a first of its kind in pediatric medicine. The reference is an integrated point of care service available on handheld devices that can be used by physicians at patient bedside.

Dr. Kamat also edited the "Textbook of Pediatric Global Health" for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

His editing work on the earlier projects helped Dr. Kamat earn the Wayne State University Board of Governors Faculty Recognition Award last year.
